 AT1313 The Works of Oliver Goldsmith
The Works of Oliver Goldsmith, Wakefield Edition, Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1900 London, illustrated in color. Brown and green leather with gold lettering and rose decorations, excellent condition, 10" x 6 1/2", 7 volumes: Vol. II She Stoops to Conquer (1773), The Grumbler, Vicar of Wakefield (1776); Vol. III Present State of Polite Learing, Citizens of the World Vol. I; Vol. IV Citizens of the World Vol. II (1762); Vol. V The Bee, Essays; Vol. VI Unacknowledged Essays, Prefaces, Introductions, etc.; Vol. VII Biograhies, Reviews; Vol. VIII Reviews, Miscellanies, Letters. Oliver Goldsmith 1728-34, Irish poet, novelist, dramatic. Showed little or no early promise and after nearly a decade was sent to Edinburgh for medical studies but he left for Europe. He wrote "Earth and Animated Nature" in eight volumes, a History of England, one of Rone, one of Greece, "Enquiry into the Present State of Polite Learning in Europe" (1759) and "The Traveller" (1765).
